Two more days...

Two more days until I embark on the first of 7 weeks of focus... the first week is food. I must have subconsciously known that my diet was going to change, because today I couldn't get enough cheese, cupcakes, or coffee!

I was reading on Jen Hatmaker's blog, and she writes:
Enough.

Enough with the obscene excess while the rest of the world is burning down outside our windows. Enough with the waste as 25,000 people die today of hunger, while I throw away another pound of food we didn’t get around to eating. Enough with the debt, the spending, the amassing, the irresponsibility, the indulgence, the fake discipleship, the rat race, the hamster wheel, the power and positioning and posturing with a hunger still for more, more, more, all the while pretending to follow a Jesus who didn’t even have a place to lay his head.

I have had enough. This journey is going to be more that 7 weeks of focus. It is going to focus my ministry... how do I authentically preach the gospel when I hunger for more and more?

  1. So inspired by your commitment! I love these ideas and how they re-energize me to be the person I know I am inside and truly want to be. Admittedly curious how the only 7 articles of clothing for a week works... not enough to buy the book at this moment but very curious just the same. ;-) I will pray for your strength, steadfastness, and support through this journey. Please keep posting - the successes, the struggles and the surprises. Hugs to you, dear lady!!!

  2. Amanda - awesome idea. I wonder if I can just reduce my whole Lenten season by 7 things for the whole 40 days. I had planned a water only (no coffee, tea, juice or alcoholic beverages).

I'm intrigued. Wish I'd seen this in time to really give it some thought.

My sister-in-law is also reading the book.
    Blessings on your journey!

  3. Thanks for the comments! Next week, Nancy- we will see how the clothing thing works. Underthings don't count... so that helps. But I am still on the fence on whether pajamas count! Thoughts?

Sharon- I do these kind of things without much thought. Just jump in- ha! You could do it-- You mean do all the things at the same time for all of Lent?
